Nick Socha Bids For Back To Back Gold Rush Wins

Nick Socha

This past weekend Nick Socha traveled to Davis, Ca for his second race of the Northern California Gold Rush Series.

Nick is coming off a last to first victory in his series debut at Prarie City SVRA and was looking to take control the technical Davis track. Nick holds 3 back to back championships at the track from his former karting years and was looking to make a statement to his current competitors this weekend.

Nick pulled off his 2nd off pole position qualifying run of the Gold Series, leaving most of the 15 kart field behind and wasn't looking to give anything up.

In the first heat as the green flag dropped Nick maintained his position holding off 3rd place starter Rob Nascimento double wide into the first turn and pulled him on the second never looking back. Pole sitter Chad Nascimento took off in the lead with Nick in chase and they left the pack to battle it out behind them. The end result was the top 3 in the same positions for the main event

Rolling off the start in the main the inside row took control leaving Nick out to dry and back to 5th place as the field filed into position. Nick didn't waste time to make his move to the front as Chad and Rob Nascimento pulled away from the pack. Several laps into the race a scuffle between the Nascimento's left Chad, the top qualifier in the barriers.

"This race was rough" Nick commented, " I got tagged in the side and half thrown from the kart as I worked through traffic". After early scuffles Nick regained lost positions had cleared the pack with only Rob Nascimento, the series points leader to chase down but Nick would have to cut down a 75yrd. lead that Nascimento had built up. Nascimento is always fast but felt dialed this race and I always get faster as the race goes on, I knew I had a shot, and I had the time to do it", Nick commented.

By lap 15 Socha had amazingly enough reeled Nascimento in and was pressuring for the pass. "My dad has been making me fast for alot of years and we definately had it together in the main", Socha said. Nick made his move in turn 2 taking Nascimento by suprise and making an untouched pass for 1st place! However, it was a short lived victory as Nick was hit by Nascimento as Socha exited the turn spinning both cometitors and breaking Socha's chain. Nascimento reentered the race but was disqualified for the move following the event.

Following the race Socha commented," it was definately a bummer, I could taste the back to back wins. My dad tuned me to perfection today and there was only one way to stop us. We showed that the last victory wasn't a fluke and there's no way to run from us. I've raced alot of years and know how to handle competitors like this.   We're hoping to have a clean race and do well at the next event Sept 3-4 at the Stockton Motorplex."
