Another Race Another Lesson - Silver State 300 "I have a tremendous amount of respect for teams that can repeatedly finish races. I have run a couple of companies, and I have orchestrated what, at the time, seemed like huge projects. I can now conclude that was child’s play. As I looked across the mountain of iron we brought with us to the Silver State 300, I thought we were prepared. Torchmate Racing was able to win this race last year, and I was determined to repeat that this year. Jessie Haines and Mike Aiello joined our efforts with the 4499 car. We brought the 7231 truck, and after last second adjustments, radio checks, and breakfast we were ready. Logistics and preparation wins races, and I was in charge of logistics. We had a great crew and confidence was high. I was fortunate enough to get to drive our 7231 truck and with the help of my co-pilot Nick Sosha I was confident we had what it would take. Until…." |

Latest News Shooting for 4 Baja 1000's in a Row
"We’ve won three Baja 1000’s in a row and we were going for our fourth. We spent countless hours on logistics and preparing the car for this race. We thought everything was 100% ready as we headed South for Ensenada , Mexico the Saturday before the race (Boy were we wrong). Our schedule was, for myself and Steve, to pre-run our section on Sunday and Monday in the Shaffer’s offroad JK. Monday night we all met up for the Pirate party at Mike’s Sky Ranch. Then Lance used the JK to pre-run what he hadn’t ran in his dodge." Read more |

TORCHMATE RACING BAJA 1000 RACE REPORT
"The Baja 1000 is the toughest off-road race in the world. Some are longer and some are rougher, but no other competition creates the same challenge. The race is equally hard to explain. It is frustrating, rewarding, threatening, hospitable, exhausting, and beautiful all at the same time. There is triumph, injury, breakage, and even death. Locals build traps and throw whatever is in reach at the occupants, in our case, a well placed orange. To understand it, you must experience it. I thought I had during previous Baja races but learned valuable lessons this year. " Read on... |

TORCHMATE COMPLETES ROOKIE 7200 DESERT SEASON IN 2ND PLACE "After a long and successful 2009 campaign, the racing season for the Torchmate team has concluded with the BITD Henderson Desert Classic. The race was seemingly simple compared to the challenges of the Baja 1000 yet still an extremely rough and dusty course. The team of Greg Jones and Nick Socha would start the 240 mile, 4 lap race. Lap races cause the course to become extremely chewed up and increase danger as overall leaders will lap the slower classes." Read on to find out how the Torchmate teams takes home 2nd place in the 7200 desert season. Visit photo gallery for BITD Henderson Desert Classic. |

TORCHMATE RACING NABS FIRST 7200 DESERT WIN"Casey Folks of Best in the Desert says, “Life is an adventure. Come live your adventure with Best in the Desert.” It’s not just a slogan. Adventure is the one word I come back to time and again to describe off-road racing. Things can be going smoothly before a dramatic change occurs and all is thought lost. This is due to harsh environment in which we race. The desert has a variety of terrain that no other form of racing can boast - smooth roads, rocky silt, water, and dust. In the desert, things can change in an instant but the net result is always the same – grand adventure." Read more on how Bill Kunz and Brad Lovell took the checkered flag! | |

THE ADVENTURE OF THE BAJA 500
"I am used to sitting behind the wheel. Holding on to it helps your body absorb harsh bumps and it gives you a general sense that you control your fate. This was my third race as navigator in the Torchmate Ranger and up to this race, I have always felt comfortable. The adventure of Baja racing is more extreme though and I once again felt the hair raising thrill that I have spent years attempting to numb." "The #7231 desert truck had a new dress on and was ready for a dance... I mashed the pedal to the floor and the Ford 4.5
SVO 6 Cylinder engine put all 490+ horsepower to the ground. He did not stand a chance. I felt good
and it was time to get moving. We passed vehicle after vehicle flipped over..." "Desert racing is a very hard thing to understand without experiencing it first hand. There are video clips
on the internet that show trucks screaming past, in-car shots of bushes whizzing by, and colorful
pictures of high dollar racers in the air. What none of these demonstrate are the hours of violence that
each truck experiences throughout a 425 mile race. The bruises and aches I have today are testament to
the punishment handed out by such a race..." |
