Scott Sroufe Shares His Last Few Weeks of Racing

Scott Sroufe

July 23rd
We headed to Dakota State Fair Speedway.  I started 3rd in the heat race and was running third until I got moved out of the way in turn 3 with a couple of laps away and ended up with a 4th place finish.  We made a couple of small changes to the car for the feature.  They farmed the track right before we got onto the track, so the track was pretty hammer down fast.  I started 6th in the feature and made short work moving into 2nd place.  While running in second with about 5 laps remaining the guy running in 3rd was trying everything he could to get around me including bending in my rear bumper by about 4inches.  I ended up loosing the fight with a 3rd place finish.  The car was a little bit too tight to keep up with the leader.

July 27th
We headed to Madison Speedway for the Ethanol Tour races with special guess "Nascar Driver" Kenny Wallace.  Kenny was racing a pure stock, midwest modified and a modified.  There were almost 30 cars in my class that were checked in for the night.  I had a great heat race and was running 3rd while I was trying everything I could to get into second place.  I ended up with a 3rd place finish and couldn't get around the 2nd place car.   We changed a couple of shocks and made a panhard bar change for the feature.  We lined up 9th in the feature and the car was working great on the bottom.  On the 3rd lap, a couple of the front runners got together and cause a 10-12 car pile up and I was right in the middle of it.  We tried getting the car fixed enough to get back into the race while they were still getting wrecked cars off the track, but we ran out of time.  We ended up with the left side door and quarter panel hanging off the car, 2 bent rims, broke brake rotor, bent spindle, bent lower control arm, broke upper control arm, bent inner and outer tie rods and bent center link.

July 30th
We got the race all bolted back together to make it back to Dakota State Fair Speedway.  The night didn't start off very good, while packing the track a rocker arm broke.  Luckily enough we got the parts to fix it and still made it out for the heat race.  I started on the pole for the heat race and was in second place after turn 2 and ran 2nd the whole race, while the last 2 laps I started catching the leader and ran out of time.  I started 4th for the feature and finished with a solid 3rd place finish.  We were pretty happy with the nights efforts after what happened during the week.

July 31st
We got the car cleaned up and the gears changed and headed to Madison Speedway again.  I started 3rd in the heat race and finished 3rd.  The track was slicking off pretty good the rest of the night and we changed a couple of shocks, changed the rear stagger and moved the panhard bar for the feature.  I started 2nd in the feature and ended up with a 4th place finish on a track that was a follow the leader around the bottom for most of the feature.

August 6th
We headed back to Dakota State Fair Speedway for another night of racing.  We started off the night bad with a terrible draw for our heat race starting spot.  I was supposed to start 9th in the heat race, but one car didn't make the car so that moved me up to 7th.  I had a really good start right away but the yellow flag flew on the first lap.  The second start wasn't as good as the first, but I managed to work my way threw traffic and ended up with a 3rd place finish.  I started 4th in the feature and the 2 front row guys decided they both wanted the same lane going into turn 3 and both cars spun right infront of me.  I got slowed down a little before coming into contact with one of the cars and the guy behind me had nowhere to go and ended up hitting the left side of my car.  After the wreck I had 3" of toe in and restarted on the outside pole.  I battled for the lead for most of the race while fighting the steering cause by the toe problem.  I ended up loosing the battle and jump the cushion in the middle of 1 and 2 and ended up hitting the wall.  I was able to continue and ended up with a 7th place finish.  I ended up with a bent wheel, bent control arm, left inner tie rod, right outer tie rod.

August 7th
We got the car back together and ready to head to Casino Speedway.  I started 3rd in the heat race and was called for a jump start and was put to the rear, because the leader never went on the green flag.  I was running the highside going into turn 3 and about got pushed into the wall from the guy running the bottom, which caused me to spin.  The other guy got put to the rear and I ended up with a 7th place finish.  The track was extremely ruff and slimmy making it hard to pass.  I started 18th in the feature and was slowly moving my way forward running the bottom.  I was up to 5th place with a few laps to go and decided to try the high side, which was the wrong move.  I ended up going back to the bottom after getting passed by a few cars and ended up with a 8th place finish.

August 13th
After a long weekend of not racing Saturday, we headed to Madison Speedway.  I started 3rd in the heat race and the track was a one lane track right in the middle and I fell back to 6th within a couple of laps.  I ended up with a 5th place finish.  Right after my heat race it started to rain and the rain stop after about 30 minutes.  The track for the rest of the night was super fast and mostly one lane, because of the rain.  I started 9th in the feature and after the 3rd lap all my tear offs on my helmet flew off at once.  I ended up slowly going forward to 5th place and fell back to 6th place when I got too high and had to get off the throttle so I didn't help up sliding off the track.  The last couple of laps the engine temp was getting pretty warm so I was letting off a little bit and ended up with a 6th place finish.
